rude manager
The sandwiches are nothing special, but the noodle dishes are good. However, I'm not stepping foot in the shop again. The manager/owner is a loser, a condescending jerk to customers--unless you're a pretty woman on his good day. I can only imagine how he treats his staff behind closed doors. It's better to go for take-out, but we won't bother again. There are better Thai restaurants in the East Village.

Red basil rocks!
Stopped in one night just to grab a snack. Tried the red basil beef sandwich and the white ginger chicken plus the Thai Me Up salad. Loved the salad and the red basil beef sandwich! The white ginger was good, too, but I can't say enough about the red basil beef. Can't wait to have another whenever I get back to NY!

to the owner
Eat here all the time. Good fresh food and (usually) friendly staff. That is if the owner is not there. He walks around with a major attitude, belittling his staff in front of customers, and generally giving off a very mean vibe. He should just stay away... its like a dark cloud looming over the place.

Nice little place for cool cheap eats
If you’re in the neighborhood & looking for a change in cheap eats, this is a neato place to check out. They specialize in Thai sandwiches. My husband got the chicken in the black pearl teriyaki sauce it was good well & very tasty. I ordered 4 shrimp dumplings in the spicy peanut sauce & the spicy tomato rice soup. The dumplings were scrumptious, despite the presence of a bit of cilantro (which I usually loathe) coming from a cilantro-hating me, that’s saying a lot. The sauce was spicy & flavorful. The soup was okay, almost too spicy for me, decent flavor, but I was expecting more. I actually only ate half my soup & ordered more dumplings! Enjoyed delicious coffee sweetened/lightened w/ condensed milk (note, they didn’t have sugar). The staff is friendly & accommodating. It is a tiny place & most of the tables are wobbly, but it’s well worth checking out.

Tasteless curry, fishy veg dumplings
I know there's lots of great Thai in the East Village, but I'm always looking for something new. Given the high ratings and against my impulse to avoid places with cutesy names, I decided to try Thai Me Up. I ordered the veggie dumplings and chicken green curry for delivery. While the food came fast, it was pretty unappetizing. The dumplings were tiny - more like shu mai - and tasted fishy. If I was a vegetarian I would have been grossed out. The "spicy" green curry was watery and tasteless - no curry flavor, no coconut milk flavor, and the farthest thing from spicy.
