    Not Bad

my 5yr old and i ate there on a busy sunday afternoon/evening. very friendly staff. they were very busy however, and the service suffered. the food was slow to arrive (2 different dumplings appetizers and sesame beef + rice). BUT when the food did eventually come, it was hot, super tasty, and well prepared. i highly recommend the szechuan dumplings in hot oil. i first had them there 15 years ago and the only change is an improvement in that they are now served in a bowl rather than a plate. they are super delicious.

    No complaints

I have never eaten at the cottage, but I live nearby and order from there at least once a week. The food is always good, prices are good (and better than other Chinese restaurants nearby). The food typically comes in about 15 minutes and it is hot and thouroughly cooked. I don't think it's ever taken more than 20 minutes. 0 for atmosphere only because I've never been there.

    Tasteless and bland

Sunday 12-25-11 Daytime lunch 1 p.m. from the dinner menu 3 persons. Combined Chinese eating out experience of over 100 years. Ordered: 3 soups Wonton- very clear 3 small wontons- no taste Hot & sour- tasteless compared to other places Wonton eggdrop- see wonton 3 plates- shrimp, pork, chicken Chow fun with shrimp- very few shrimp, noodles so-so, no flavor or taste. Moo shu pork w 2 pankcakes [ordered an extra]- again little or no taste and very little pork. Pancake size and texture good. Chicken with mixed vegetables- nice ample slices of white meat chicken, Not much of a variety of mixed vegetables. Tasteless and no sauce to use with the white rice supplied. All agreed food tasted very bland. We should have asked for Soy sauce. We did get a carafe of white box wine. It helps to have the wine given the above. Total with tax $36. Service was attentive and we did not have to rush given the day and time. Living on the UWS we find fewer Chinese places that are consistently good. Too bad!!

    not recommended

i ate here once and it was decent, i wanted to go back a second time and there was a wait, i was fine waiting for a table however no one ever told me how long or asked me if i was waiting. i stood there for 5 minutes asking person after person and getting denied an answer from anyone, almost as if i was invisible, i finally left and will not give them my money again.

Good Cuisine, Cozy Environment, with Impeccable Service!

After reading numerous bad reviews here I must do one of my own. I have been going to the Cottage about 3x/year for almost 15 years now, many times for an informal dinner meeting or a date. If you don't mind good food, a relaxed and close environment, and a server that is literally at your beckoned call then this is the place for you. I have never had a bad experience here, food is delivered hot, free table wine (I want to remind the doom and gloomers of that fact), and impeccable service make for a nice cozy experience which creates a nice environment in such close quarters. Overall, great job!

The fast food chain of Chinese food

The good news is... The food arrived almost as quickly as I hung up the phone. And that's why I called them... I was in a time crunch and knew their delivery was fast. The bad news.. The food tasted like it had been prepared in 30 seconds. Cold noodles w/ sesame were watery and tasteless (as they were when I ate in the other night). The Chicken with broccoli was watery and tasteless. And yes, when I ate there the other night, the free wine was - wait for it- watery and tasteless. This food used to be good and the restaurant reliable. Not any more.
