Overpriced Taco Bell. Not worth it!
Let's face it-for the average tourist this may be a fun NYC experience, but anyone who has had real Mexican food would agree that this place is not worth the buck. You'll be paying top dollars for bad (not even Mexican!) food. The freshly made guacamole is not always good and is certainly not worth the $13! If you're a tourist and you're visiting NYC, please do not fall for the lame old "Oh, it's NYC. It's expenssive." It doesn't have to be. My advice-if you want an overpriced 2000-calorie drink you're better off going to Starbucks. The service is certainly better there. If you're looking for great authentic Mexican food I suggest you take a trip to Brooklyn and spoil yourself at La Pequena (86 South Portland Ave). Best frozen margaritas too!

angry
The absolute most disappointing eating experience so far in this neighborhood. The waitstaff is disorganized and, while sweet, seems to skulk around in fear of the boss making his rounds in his suit. The menu is difficult to navigate and the prices are ridiculous. We tried to eat for a modest price and were shocked at the $3 tiny glass of flat Coke and $17 burritos--chicken for the husband, veggie for me. I never imagined how wrong a burrito could go. We felt like we were eating lasagna rolled in a mushy tortilla. For that price you would think you might get a side of rice and beans or little dab of guac, but no, nothing, just the lousy lasagna. We walked out and were so angry because we just wanted that meal back!

great place to drink margheritas with friends
Although super-overpriced, this is a fun, loud place to go with a group. The margheritas are awesome, and if you order enough of them, you can sometimes get the manager to come around and pour free shots in your mouth!

one of my favorite places on earth
I have been going to Mama Mexico for nearly three years now. Going there is like going to heaven. I love the feeling inside the restaurant, the colors, the "liveliness." The food is absolutely delicious, the service is exemplary. Yeah, it's a little pricey but so are most of the restaurants in nyc! I have never had to wait for a table and the staff has waited on my what seemed like hand and foot. The owner does a phenomenal job. I go there all the time and have never had a bad time there -- Period.

save yourself the trouble and your money!
I have been at the Mama Mexico with my girlfriends, the staff was very slow, rude and unmotivated. They forgot to place our appetizer orders, we waited so long for the drinks and our check.. The food is too expensive, please save yourself the trouble! :)))

Gone to the "DOGS!"
This use to be a fun and delightful neighborhood mexican restaurant before the "expansion." The food was "excellent" - freshly prepared the service was efficient and friendly and the mariachis were always a little over the top, but fun. Now, the food is "awful" - tastes like they pre-prepare it and heat it up in those hugh ovens before they bring it out the table - and the prices are "outrageous" for what has become mediocre mexican food plus there's little alcohol in the drinks. The tables are crowded so you feel as though you're eating out of the plate of the person sitting at the table next to you. And, the service has gone down because they're too crowded!!! they're making money - so it will never be the same and I have moved on and found better mexican food!

This is not Mexican food!
My "burro" came with some type of red chile - but it was not red chile as I had experienced growing up in a Mexican household! No, this red chile was more like marinara sauce. It was terrible. I suppose the guacamole and chips weren't too terrible, but the outrageousness of their pricing destroyed whatever taste value they had. And, finally, my coffee was instant! They actually serve instant coffee. Mix all these facts up with the extreme gaudiness of the place, and Mama Mexico is just a poor sight to behold. PS: I can say with almost one hundred percent confidence that my waiter was on something.
