    Exceptional All Around!

My mom and I are visiting NYC for the week and staying in Hell's Kitchen/Theatre District area. We were looking for GOOD authentic Italian food and after searching the numerous restaurants in the area, chose Mario's. From the minute we walked up, we were met with exceptional service and the right amount of attention. Not knowing that the meal started with wonderful complimentary homemade foccacia (with olive oil and vinegar), we ordered the garlic knots (also great). We both had the Mozzarella Caprese salad - so fresh - followed by some of the best bolognese I've ever had and a wonderful eggplant dish. Lovely, cozy atmosphere and definately a must!

    Best restaurant in town!

Wow...I don't even know where to begin as I was stunned by the place. Well, first off as soon as I walked in I was enchanted by the beautiful and quite unique decor. Everyone was very welcoming and polite with a smile on their face. The atmosphere wasvery inviting and cozy. Our server did an outstanding job with our party, making sure everything was set to perfection. He was extremely attentive with us (not to mention we had a party of 10) but yet delivered the same service to his other tables. Our food was served quickly and it tasted fantastic. It really was Italian food which is difficult to find now a days, it was freshly made and served in perfect portions also offering reasonable and affordable prices. I had spinach ravioli and it was very flavorful and rich in taste and I also sampled the pasta and pizza and they were amazing!!! They have a nice selection of deserts and they were just as tasty as the entrees (only sweet of course). I brought home witha marvelous memory and for certain not the last one. I am very particular on good service and this resataurant truly exceeded my expectations on every level making it the best on my list (having tried many other restaurants that claim they make Italian food and offer great service) Mario's is the place to be, if you're looking to enjoy great tasting food and an experience to remember, I am sure you will not be disappointed!!!

    Excellent and affordable

It was late on Sunday evening, and we had no idea where to go. A large group of us had just left happy hour at the Eagle, and we were starving. Our waiter, greeted us outside the front door, and invited us in. It was a very inviting atmosphere. The food was awesome, and the price was perfect. Where else can you go in NYC, were the entire check came out to under $70.00 for five people, and the food was EXCELLENT? I will go back again and plan on telling everyone I know. We also had an opportunity to meet the owner Mario, what a great guy…Ask for him or our waiter, David. I promise you will love this place.

    a mixed bag at best

Before any criticism, I have to say that I thought the pizza was decent. It was their best foot forward and given the immediate neighborhood's lack of choices, they deserved some credit for that. But otherwise, it was a large disappointment. Their effort was there, they were polite and presented the traditional bread with olive oil and balsamic plate for everyone. Unfortunately, the quality of the bread was incredibly poor, almost sponge-like in texture. My partner and I literally took one bite and asked them to take it off the table. I ordered a mixed green salad - not their lowest option, but something of substance to fill in as we waited for pizza. Again, just terribly disappointing to the point that I didn't finish. It was wet as if the lettuce was washed and not dried, which watered down the entire plate, including the dressing which was nothing to speak about either. Overall, they are a victim of just poor choice in quality. And this deserves to be criticized because we are not in Iowa - it's terribly easy to have some of the best bread in this nation delivered to their door and it is NOT expensive. The quality issue went through all servings - the bread, the oil, the salad, the pizza. Again, the pizza being decent, a noble effort, but nothing to rush back and order. With the right people involved and the right choices made in terms of quality, they could have a winning restaurant in an area that so sorely needs one. Sadly, they have a rather long road to get there...

    Wonderful find!

I chose this restaurant thru menupages.com for dinner with my friends because the reviews were good and it was centrally located. We were NOT disappointed! The place is cozy, our waiter - Paul was great - and the food was delicious! I had the shrimp parm, but I tasted my friends' special - the shrimp with risotto - and that was excellent as well. great little place - wish we had one in my neighborhood!

    WONDERFUL FIND

My friend and I had gone to the theater on 42nd street and were looking for an Italian restaurant nearby. We found Mario's and were so pleased that we stopped in. What was so memorable, apart from the food was the service. The entire waitstaff was the best that I have had in Manhattan. That is quite a statement since I dine out several times a week. I don't remember our server's name but he was excellent, so gracious and charming. I would DEFINATELY recommend this restaurant, only one problem, it should be larger, cannot accomodate too many people. Looking forward to going back again soon.
